    I am of the same mind as Wen Stephenson in the Nation article you cite. I speak to friends with small children (I have none) and turn the conversation towards what those kids will face. I have yet to turn their attention. First is to become aware, next is to understand the implications — that’s the hard part. To take time, to feel the desperation.

      I tell ya mk, I’ve lost many a former comrade in the fight against unawareness. Once I started reminding my old anti-war activists that Democrat war is exactly the same as Republican war… I became the “crazy” lone blogger instead of the activist/photographer they saw me as before. We are surrounded by death and violence, never ending war and propagandized to the point of waiting to vote for the next corporate mouthpiece. I don’t know mk, it’s a challenge to keep banging the same drum that I do. Lost many a photography gig, so now I just do my art-like thing and went back to work driving a truck. I’m both part of the problem and railing against myself… Good times.

        Yes, one evening recently I ran into an acquaintance on a corner doing her Friday evening vigil holding up signs against the wars and drone murder. She was and is still a faithful Democrat. She sees no contradiction. Where there are glaring contradictions, there is truth to be found.

        During the 2008 campaign I tried to convince friends & family that Obama was a Manchurian candidate. Ooops, there goes the friends. Soon thereafter I realized (duh) that the two big parties are merely two sides of the same oligarchic coin. “R” they win, “D” we lose. Oooops, there goes the family. As I was saying to my partner this morning, people don’t understand that it’s not a question of a good monarch versus a bad monarch — the time came when people finally began to question the existence of monarchy.

        I think we’re at the big Turning Point. We’re at an existential and spiritual crossroad. Used to be, the debate was between right and left, my opinion versus your opinion. It was about world view. Now, we have evidence of climate change manifesting all around us. So the debate now is not about opinion, it has come to Reality versus supreme myopic selfishness.

        As our friend at Corrente Wire says: first they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. Keep the faith and follow your light.
