Judge Sonia Sotomayor Must be Numb

When facing out of touch, racist old white men (not unlike the situation Sonia currently finds herself in) one might rely on the wisdom of The Edge for guidance and words of encouragement. Why the hell not?
Don’t grab, don’t clutch, don’t hope for too much
Don’t breath, don’t achieve or grieve without leave
Don’t check , just balance on the fence
Don’t answer, don’t ask, don’t try and make sense

That’s good advice for a lot of uncomfortable situations.
Of course, later, in court, they’ll say you must have been OK with it since you didn’t haul off and slug the asshole….
But, while you’re neck deep in the situation, trying hard to keep your head above water and your hands to yourself (because you know that the son-of-a-bitch has almost all the power, and if you don’t keep your fists down there may well be blood on the floor that will be hard to explain to the cops) … Ya … that’s when numb is a good tool. And no one who hasn’t been through it will ever know just why that is so.
