Sherman Alexie, The Homeland and Genocide

March 15, 2009

Sherman’s latest book, film or poem?  No, but it would be nice…

Sherman will be using I-5 next week,  to transport himself up to Bellingham for the inaugural Whatcom Reads! event.  Sherman will be discussing his book “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian,” Prineville, Oregon and the Border Patrol.

Well, maybe.  The Border Patrol could become a topic of discussion for Sherman, if the Border Patrol were doing it’s job.

If the glorious Department of Homeland Security were doing it’s job,  there would be several citizen testing checkpoints on I-5,  at WWU and throughout the Bellingham area.  Imagine the amount of brown evil doers that could be captured at WWU!  Ponder the ramifications of Sherman Alexie being stopped,  more than once,  for driving while not-white.  Stopped only to be asked to prove his citizenship.  Try to envision the look on the Nooksack and Lummi peoples faces…as they too,  are stopped for driving while not-white and citizenship tested.

Of course that’s just stupid.  Because as Jefferson County Republicans know, The Border Patrol is still too busy on the Olympic Peninsula,  boarding buses,  stalking daycare centers and scouring churches, restaurants and stores,  for brown people.

But do go see Sherman.  Just have your papers handy.
