Avoid the Mall…..Avoid the Conflict

March 14, 2008

This is the warning being given to active duty military and civilian DOD employees and their families. Avoid the Tacoma Mall at all costs, for scary anti-war Americans will be there on Saturday. These unemployed, dirty, freedom hating, baby eating protesters hate the troops, apple pie and your sister too. They also think the Sonics should go to Oklahoma.

Frightened yet? Perhaps you might be wondering why King 5 “news” showed Olympia PD attacking the baby eaters last November? Do you think that was relevant to the mall story? Do you think that was reporting news? Are you frightened?

There will be Americans at the mall on Saturday. These activists want war to end. They want our troops to come home. They want justice for the three thousand, nine hundred and eighty seven U.S. casualties. 3,987 deaths caused by Republican and Democratic politicians. Treasonous, privileged cowards who hide behind my flag.

There will be veterans at the mall on Saturday. Not the pretend ones spewing hate and sporting yellow ribbons on their gas burning, troop supporting cars. No, the vets I’m talking about want to actually help.

You want the truth? Turn off your TV, do not go shopping, ignore me, ignore the right wing chest thumping bloggers and King 5. Go talk to the veterans holding peace signs.

Avoid the mall…..avoid the conflict? Consider that source….then talk to a veteran.

Can I ask you as a veteran of the Iraq war, one who has been there on more than one occassion a question?
Is it only the former military veterans, who agree with you, that tell the truth on the war? Can a vet of the war that is still in the military be a credible source who is not described as a chest thumper?
You’re right, turn off the TV, go talk to a vet. Here’s one willing to talk to you…..

Thank you for your comment origionalthinker.I would say that former military veterans are not the only ones who agree with me. There are many in IVAW who are just home and are speaking out in DC right now. I am also a veteran of the Desert Storm days….so I do have some background and personal experience.
I’m glad we agree on turning off the TV. There is nothing resembling truth coming out of it. Check in with Iraq Vets Against the War, they have much more recent experiences to share than I…..
I thank you for your service.

I believe many vets, currently serving, are pretty much on a need to know basis. They are entirely focused on their mission and are completely surrounded by officers and soldiers who don’t dare let their real beliefs into the mix. It’s not until they are out of the military can they explore, if they are bright, what is really behind this horrific war.
Tell me, how can anyone tell the truth about a war when they are right in the middle of it? People back home have more of a grasp of what’s going on because they have the time to ferret out the facts. They have more at their disposal from which to glean an assessment of this miasma. A soldier is in a cocoon in a manner of speaking It’s the only way a country can fight a war. Keep your soldiers focussed and on message. It’s when they get home and the brighter ones start looking into “the matter,” that the light comes on.

And one more thing. Please veterans, stop taking antiwar messages personally. Protesters are not working against you, they are FOR YOU. Please get that straight. If Americans just got together and started realizing who their common enemy really is then we just might get somewhere. Governments are notorious for pitting people against each other. And if you think the American government is any different then start reading your history, that is if you can find any that hasn’t been tampered with. That’s the only way they can get away with their dastardly deeds.

I have a number of friends in PT that pride themselves on not having a TV, not reading the local papers, and generally missing the point that the opposition is well organized and powerful. If we as veterans and others in the peace and justice movement are to have any effect and make sense to each other, we need to know what they (the opposition) are thinking and planning. I watch Free Speech TV and LInk. Today, March 15, the Winter Soldier hearings in DC are on FSTV all day. “Democracy Now” is on three times a day and I wouldn’t miss it along with the many other programs that reveal “our” side’s truth. If you like Bill Moyers, you’ll love these TV stations. Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) nees your financial support for the Winter Soldier hearings at IVAW.org/support.
True, there’s plenty of lies and garbage on commercial TV, but there are still good radio and TV out there telling the truth.
